Welcome to Marisa’s Italian Kitchen and thanks for visiting!

I’m Marisa, I am an Italian-Canadian born in the Lazio region of Italy, the central part of the boot and grew up in the beautiful city of Montreal, (la belle province) Quebec.

I am the writer and photographer behind the blog with a great passion for Italian home cooking and all things sweet. As a matter of fact, don’t ever leave me in a room with a plate full of freshly baked cookies…ever…just saying!

I married my high school sweetheart and we have twoΒ beautiful grown children who are my very happy taste testers in the kitchen. You will find here my authentic Italian recipes as well as those adapted from my large repertoire of cookbooks and magazines, all tested and approved by family and friends.

The idea to start this blog came to me shortly after my mom passed away after a long battle with heart disease. She was a great cook and was the most happy when she had her three daughters and grand-children over on Sunday afternoons enjoying her traditional “Sugo”, home made sauce with a variety of meats that would slowly simmer for hours.

With her gone, so too are all her recipes. This blog will be a journey of re-creating meals that trigger memories from childhood. Β A fusion of two cultures, Italian and Canadian. It will also serve as an archive of my most requested recipes. From comfort food to soul nourishing meals to sweet baked delights, I hope to inspire new beginners to believe in what they can achieve, in their own kitchen.

If you have a question or comment in English, Italian or French , please….don’t be shy. I would love to hear from you πŸ™‚

    • Hi Darie, just had a tour around your blog…I really like your theme and concept. Very easy to navigate. Mostly, I love how you spruced up your side bars and thanks for the link by the way. Looking good girl!

I must say, I cannot ever recall being frustrated when I am in my kitchen. It is my go to place to decompress and baking thoroughly relaxes me! By the way, you should visit Italy one day. You would so love it there 😊

  7. Hello Marisa,
Thank you so much for the follow..:) Your blog is wonderful and I’m looking forward to see more of your recipes!

  8. Hi Marisa, I can’t believe how much we have in common! Similar objective with our blogs, same blog theme, some recipes in common, live in the same city (I think!). So glad you found me, I like your blog!

    • I know, it seems so surreal. I too am glad I came across your blog. I could not help but press like when I read your “about me” page. Looking forward to reading more of your posts and your children sound wonderful πŸ™‚

  9. Hi Marisa, That is so wonderful that you are putting your recipes down here! I am sure that would please your mother! I am excited to explore and find some delicious Italian food! I love your pictures and everything sounds great! I am the mother of 9 and I cook American as well as Middle Eastern food!

  10. It breaks my heart that my Italian grandmother’s recipes were never written done. One of my cousins spent a day with her in the kitchen once trying to do just that and my grandmother would say things like “put the dough in a bowl and then cover it with two sweaters!”. I’m sure you’ve done a great job recreating the food from your mom.

  11. Hi Marisa! I just want you to know that I love your blog and have nominated you for the Creative Blogger Award! Please check out my post http://wp.me/p4Rb3P-158.

  16. Well, your story certainly sounds a lot like mine — plus you have my name. I was born in Italy and moved to the States. I started this blog shortly after my mom died — I wish I still had her around to talk recipes and the past. Buona giornata!

  17. Hello Marisa — I’m Marisa — Italian born and raised in the States. Your story could almost mirror mine. I started my blog after my mom died and I wish every day she was back with me. I saw your comment on Jovina’s blog. Buona giornata.

    • Hi Marisa, so nice to meet you!! It seems we do indeed have many things in common. We not only share the same name but are natives of Italy growing up and living in different countries. We also share a love of Italian food. I guess it goes without saying that “you can take the girl out of Italy, but never Italy out of the girl.” Italian food and culture are embedded in our souls πŸ™‚ Ciao!!!

  18. Great blog! I too am capturing recipes of my childhood, but am fortunate enough to still have my mum to call up for recipes. Your photos are so amazing! Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

  19. Hi Marisa:) I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award!

  20. Marisa, your site is incredible. There are so many recipe’s I want to try. Even the blueberry scones recipe is a wonder.

  21. Hi Marissa – I have just come across your blog as you liked one of my comments.
I am an English woman living in France, and began writing about my journey to develop ‘Franglais’ cooking to keep both sides of the family happy and also because I could not find what I was used to cooking with in the UK and was faced with a lot of things that I had never cooked with before!
That said – I love Italy and Italian food, and have recently put up a couple of posts following a recent holiday in Tuscany.
I speak French also (but not fluently) and have just embarked on learning Italian.
I’m off to work now, but am going to have a good read of your recipes when I return
    Ciao Lindy
